WoW Forever gold farming starts the moment servers open on November 4, 2026, and the economy is tighter than in Classic. There is no WoW Token, class training from 1 to 60 costs every class about 207 gold, and riding costs 100 gold at level 40 and 1,000 gold at level 60. Below we cover where your gold goes, the methods that pay best while leveling, the Legacy perks that save gold, and a simple plan from your first copper vein to the Journeyman Riding fund.

The six numbers that shape your WoW Forever gold plan, based on the final beta builds (checked November 3, 2026).

How gold works in WoW Forever

The Classic team has said there are no plans for a WoW Token or paid character boosts in WoW Forever. Every piece of gold on your ruleset was looted, sold or earned by a player, which keeps prices grounded but also means a fresh level 60 has no shortcut to the big purchases.

There is also no realm list. Each region has one large shared world per ruleset, so you trade with far more players than on a single Classic realm. Our WoW Forever rulesets guide explains the setup. In practice that means a deeper auction house, faster price discovery and less room for one player to corner a market.

Blizzard spent the beta closing the easy money loops that worked in older Classic versions. These are the changes that matter for your wallet:

  • Crafted wands vendor for almost nothing. All crafted common and uncommon wands now sell to vendors for 1 copper, so Enchanting wand crafting is no longer a vendor gold farm.
  • Crafted items sell for less. In a later beta build Blizzard cut the vendor sell price of many profession-made items, so crafting just to vendor the result usually loses money.
  • One skin per corpse. A creature can be skinned a single time before it disappears.
  • Fewer copper nodes near starting zones. Blizzard reduced the number of Poor Copper Vein nodes in starter areas, so early miners should move on to the next zones quickly.
  • Bartering skips training and repairs. The Bartering Legacy perk still discounts vendor items, but a bug that also discounted training and repairs was fixed.
  • Uncollected appearances bind when vendored. Selling a Bind on Equip item whose look you have not collected makes the vendored item soulbound, which matters if you plan to buy it back.

How much gold you need from 1 to 60

Plan around three fixed bills. In the final beta builds Blizzard set the total cost to train class abilities from 1 to 60 at between 206 and 207 gold for every class, with Warlock training reduced to make up for pet Grimoires. Riding is the bigger number.

WoW Forever gold costs from 1 to 60 (beta values)

ExpenseLevelCostNotes
Class training1 to 60About 206 to 207 gold in totalSame total for every class; abilities learned at the same level mostly cost the same
Apprentice Riding40100 goldFirst mount; 10% off at Honored with your home faction
Journeyman Riding601,000 goldFast mount; Honored discount applies, Bartering does not
Repairs and consumablesAll levelsVariesThe Reinforce perk cuts durability damage from deaths

Training and both riding ranks add up to about 1,300 gold. Most of the class training is spread across the whole climb, so the real pressure points are the 100 gold at level 40 and the 1,000 gold at 60. If you reach level 40 with only a few gold, you will ride late and lose leveling time. Our WoW Forever riding guide covers mount options and class mount quests for Paladins and Warlocks.

Best ways to make gold while leveling

For the first weeks of WoW Forever, the best gold comes from things the whole ruleset needs while it levels. Thousands of players will be pushing crafting skill at the same time, and they buy raw materials faster than they buy finished gear.

WoW Forever gold methods while leveling

MethodWhy it paysWatch out for
Herbalism and MiningHerbs and ore are needed by every crafter leveling Alchemy, Blacksmithing, Engineering and moreFewer copper veins in starter zones; move to the next zones early
SkinningLeather is used in a long list of recipes and comes from beasts you kill anywayOne skin per corpse, so pair it with beast-heavy quest areas
FishingFish feed Cooking leveling and food buffs; the Luremaster perk adds extra catchesSlower per hour unless you fish rare spots
Vendor greys and dropsSteady income on every character with no setupLow ceiling; best as a side income
Bind on Equip greens on the auction houseLevelers pay for upgrades in their bracketList them instead of vendoring; vendor prices are low

Our pick for a new character is two gathering professions, usually Herbalism with Mining or Skinning. You gather while you quest, the materials sell from day one, and you can switch one gathering profession for a crafting profession later. The WoW Forever professions guide covers pairings for raiding and PvP once you have your mount money.

Sell raw materials early. During launch week, demand from crafters is at its peak and supply is thin, because most players are still in the low levels. As the population spreads out and more gatherers reach higher zones, low-level material prices usually fall.

Legacy perks that save or earn gold

The Legacy System gives every character up to 16 Legacy Points to spend at launch, out of a larger pool earned across your account. Several perks are gold perks in disguise. Our Legacy Challenges guide explains how to earn the points.

  • Bountiful Harvest: finds additional Scarce resources when mining, herbing or skinning. This is the strongest pure gold perk for a gatherer.
  • Bartering: reduces the gold price of items bought from vendors, including mounts, but not training or repairs.
  • Reagent Economy: class abilities no longer need purchasable reagents, and tier 1 camping features need no materials. For classes that buy reagents for their spells, that is a steady saving from the first rank to level 60.
  • Reinforce: reduces durability damage from death, which keeps repair bills down while leveling and progressing dungeons.
  • Frequent Flier: lowers the cost of flights and speeds them up.
  • Diplomat: increases reputation gains, which helps you reach Honored for the 10% riding discount sooner.
  • Dedicated Study: a daily cooldown that helps level tradeskills, or gives free Elemental Essences once your skills reach 300.

On a first character, we would take Bountiful Harvest and Reagent Economy early, then add Bartering before you buy your level 60 mount. Players planning several alts should also look at Working Overtime, which speeds up skill gains in every tradeskill.

Waylaid Crates and Merchant's Favor

WoW Forever adds two trade factions, the Azeroth Commerce Authority for the Alliance and Durotar Supply and Logistics for the Horde. Players report that Waylaid Crates drop from low-level enemies or can be bought on the auction house. You fill a crate with the profession materials on its label and hand it in for Merchant's Favor, a currency spent at the depot vendors.

Merchant's Favor is not gold, but it replaces gold spending. The depot vendors sell recipes and crafted gear, so the items you would otherwise buy can be earned with materials you gathered. Crates also add demand for common cloth, leather, ore and herbs, which is one more reason raw materials hold their value early. The Performance Bonus Legacy perk sometimes grants extra Favor on a hand-in.

Auction house tips for launch week

  1. Sell gathered materials first. Herbs, ore, leather and cloth move quickly while everyone levels crafting. Keep only what your own professions need.
  2. Do not craft to vendor. Vendor prices for crafted items were cut during the beta, so a craft is only profitable if a player buys it.
  3. Price gear by level bracket. The auction house now shows an equippable level column, so buyers filter by the level they can wear. Price a level 25 green against other level 25 greens, not against everything.
  4. Watch consumable demand before raids. Phase 1 raids open on December 9, 2026, and raid groups will need potions, elixirs and food. Our Phase 1 raids guide covers the dates. Herbalists and alchemists should plan their stock for that week.
  5. Keep a riding buffer. Whatever you invest in the auction house, keep enough cash on hand to train riding the moment you reach level 40.

A simple gold plan from level 1 to 60

  1. Levels 1 to 10: loot everything, vendor greys and pick up two gathering professions as soon as you can. Gather every node on your quest path.
  2. Levels 10 to 25: sell raw materials on the auction house instead of vendoring them. Leave the starter zones early so you are not fighting for the reduced copper nodes.
  3. Levels 25 to 40: start a fixed riding fund. Train only the class ranks you actually use and aim to reach level 40 with at least 100 gold plus training money.
  4. Level 40: train Apprentice Riding. The time you save between quest hubs is worth more than almost any other purchase at this level.
  5. Levels 40 to 60: keep gathering in higher zones, where materials are worth more, and push home-faction reputation toward Honored for the riding discount.
  6. Level 60: bank toward the 1,000 gold Journeyman Riding, then switch a gathering profession for a crafting one if your raid or PvP group needs it.

Gold mistakes to avoid

  • Buying every class rank at once. Old ranks of spells you never cast are wasted gold early on. Train what you use and catch up later.
  • Leveling a crafting profession first. Crafting costs materials and sells badly at the vendor. Gather first, craft once you have a reason.
  • Vendoring Bind on Equip items. Levelers will usually pay more on the auction house, and uncollected appearances become soulbound when sold.
  • Spending Legacy Points only on leveling perks. One or two gold perks pay for themselves many times over a character's life.
  • Buying gold from strangers. Unofficial trades with random players are a common scam route. If you want help, use a service with a clear order process and support.

WoW Forever gold FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a WoW Token in WoW Forever?

No. The Classic team has said there are no plans for a WoW Token or paid character boosts in WoW Forever, so all gold is earned in game by playing, gathering, crafting and trading.

How much gold do you need for a mount in WoW Forever?

Apprentice Riding at level 40 costs 100 gold and Journeyman Riding at level 60 costs 1,000 gold in the final beta builds. Reaching Honored with your home faction takes 10% off. Add about 207 gold of class training across 1 to 60, and a character needs roughly 1,300 gold by level 60.

What is the best profession for making gold in WoW Forever?

At launch, two gathering professions such as Herbalism with Mining or Skinning make the most reliable gold, because raw materials sell to everyone leveling crafts. The Bountiful Harvest Legacy perk adds extra Scarce resources while gathering. Crafting professions become more valuable later for raid consumables and gear.

How much does class training cost in WoW Forever?

Blizzard set the total cost to train class abilities from level 1 to 60 at between 206 and 207 gold for every class. Warlock training is reduced to offset the cost of pet Grimoires.

Can you skin a creature more than once in WoW Forever?

No. A beta change made creatures skinnable only once before the corpse disappears, so skinning works best in areas with many beasts you already kill for quests.

Does Bartering reduce riding or repair costs in WoW Forever?

Bartering reduces the gold price of items bought from vendors, such as mounts, but a beta fix stopped it from discounting training and repairs. For riding training itself, the Honored reputation discount is what lowers the price.
