WoW Forever Riding Guide: Mount Costs, Levels & Tips
WoW Forever riding at level 40 and 60: training and mount costs, how riding changed from Classic, the 10% discount, class mounts and rare mounts.
Your first mount in WoW Forever comes at level 40 and the fast one at level 60, and together they are the biggest gold costs of the leveling journey. This guide covers what riding costs in the beta, how Forever changes riding compared with Classic, how to get a discount and which special mounts are worth chasing after the November 4, 2026 launch.
Riding costs at a glance
WoW Forever riding training
| Skill | Level | Training | Mount | Speed |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Apprentice Riding | 40 | 100 gold | about 20 gold | 60% |
| Journeyman Riding | 60 | 1,000 gold | about 200 gold | 100% |
That is roughly 120 gold at 40 and 1,200 gold at 60. The level 60 mount is the long-term gold goal for most characters, and it is the reason players start saving early instead of spending everything on the auction house while leveling.
What changed from Classic
- One riding skill. In Classic, each race's mounts needed their own riding skill. In Forever, riding is a single skill, so any mount you can use, you can ride.
- Other races' mounts need Exalted. Buying a mount from another race's vendor still requires Exalted reputation with that race.
- No flying. Blizzard has confirmed there are no flying mounts in Forever.
- No WoW Token or paid boosts. Gold only comes from playing, which makes the 1,000 gold training a real milestone.
How to pay less
Reaching Honored with your home faction gives a 10% discount on riding training and mounts. On Journeyman Riding that saves about 120 gold, which is worth planning for: city reputation comes naturally from questing in your faction's zones and turning in cloth or reputation items.
The Legacy System adds another option. Its Bartering perk reduces the gold price of items bought from vendors, and Legacy Points are earned account-wide, so a second character can benefit from what your first one unlocked. See our Legacy Challenges guide for how points work.
Paladin and Warlock class mounts
Paladins and Warlocks do not buy their mounts from a vendor. They earn them through class quests: a first mount around level 40 and an epic charger or dreadsteed questline at 60. The epic questlines are long and include group content, so many players plan them alongside dungeon runs. Blizzard has not published Forever-specific costs for these quests yet.
Special and rare mounts
Beyond the vendor mounts, Forever keeps the long-term mount chases that made Classic collections special:
- Rivendare's Deathcharger: a rare drop from the final boss of Stratholme, farmed over many runs.
- Reputation mounts: racial mounts of other factions need Exalted with them, and some reputations have their own mount rewards.
- Raid and PvP mounts: PvP rank rewards and raid drops arrive as the content phases open, with Phase 1 raids starting on December 9.
- Spectral Bear: a new Legacy System mount, reported in beta at 55 Legacy Points.
Saving gold while leveling
- Train only the skills you use and skip vendor gear you will replace in a few levels.
- Pick one gathering profession early; raw materials sell well in the first weeks.
- Sell green items on the auction house rather than to vendors when the market is healthy.
- Aim for Honored with your home faction before level 60 to unlock the 10% discount.
Be careful with gold from strangers: Blizzard has said suspicious trades during the beta led to temporary economy holds on accounts while they were investigated.

How much gold do you need for the epic mount in WoW Forever?
In the beta, Journeyman Riding costs 1,000 gold to train and the mount about 200 gold, so plan for roughly 1,200 gold, or about 10% less with Honored reputation with your home faction.
Is there flying in WoW Forever?
