Destiny 2 Microcosm Guide: Quest, Co-op & Catalyst
Get Microcosm through Convalescence, complete the three Cooperative Focus missions, understand its Kinetic Heavy beam and check current Catalyst progression.
Microcosm is an Exotic Kinetic Trace Rifle that uses Heavy ammo. Its weapon quest ends with three named Cooperative Focus campaign missions and a return to Micah-10. Obtaining the weapon and completing its Catalyst are separate goals.
Reviewed October 14, 2026. This guide follows the current Convalescence quest objectives, explains how to prepare the fireteam and describes the weapon and Catalyst effects. It also identifies the exact scope of CFNBoost’s published Microcosm package.
Reach Micah-10 After The Final Shape
Bungie Help places The Final Shape in the Pale Heart, found in the World tab, and lists Convalescence: Budding among its Exotic quests. Progress through the campaign and the required Destined Heroes introduction until Micah’s Conduit in the Arbor of Light is available. Bungie’s expansion progression guidance.
The Ergo Sum Guide includes the Destined Heroes stages leading through Queens, Part I and contacting Micah-10. Microcosm follows Micah’s Convalescence objectives; completing the entire Ergo Sum weapon quest is a different goal.
Work Through the Convalescence Stages
The current quest definitions separate Rootbound, Underbrush, Greenery and Budding. Follow the active stage and return to the Arbor when instructed. This keeps the earlier Ghost-recovery work separate from the final three-mission objective. Current Convalescence objectives.
Convalescence progression checklist
| Stage | Current objective sequence | What to check next |
|---|---|---|
| Rootbound | Find the missing Ghost, investigate growth in the Arbor of Light and speak with Micah. | The next available Convalescence stage. |
| Underbrush | Acquire and equip a Flickering Blessing, investigate the Arbor growth and speak with Micah. | The Blessing is equipped through the Pale Heart menu. |
| Greenery | Open Overthrow chests in the Landing, complete Sword Dance Cyst, return to the Arbor and speak with Micah. | Budding is available from Micah’s Conduit. |
| Budding | Complete Ascent, Dissent and Iconoclasm on Cooperative Focus, then return to the Arbor of Light. | The weapon reward has been claimed. |
Underbrush’s current text directs you to acquire a Flickering Blessing from Pale Heart chests and equip it in the Traveler’s Blessings menu. That is a destination-specific combat benefit, not a permanent armor mod to find in your equipment screen.
Greenery specifically names the Landing’s Overthrow chests and Sword Dance Cyst. Follow that quest’s marked route instead of completing an unrelated Cyst because its name looks familiar.
Select Cooperative Focus for All Three Missions
Budding has three separate objectives: complete Ascent, Dissent and Iconoclasm on Cooperative Focus mode. The current activity definitions include explicitly named Cooperative Focus Campaign versions of all three. A mission name alone does not establish that the correct version was selected. Current mission variants and quest requirements.
- Acquire Convalescence: Budding and inspect the three mission objectives.
- Open the named Cooperative Focus Campaign version of Ascent.
- Complete the run and check that Ascent’s objective is recorded.
- Repeat the check for Dissent and then Iconoclasm.
- After all three objectives are complete, return to the Arbor of Light and speak with Micah-10.
- Claim Microcosm and confirm the weapon is available.
Ordinary campaign progression and Legendary campaign replays are different from the named Cooperative Focus objective. Before a group launches, confirm the activity label together. Repeating Ascent three times does not complete Budding’s three differently named requirements.
Prepare a Fireteam That Can Coordinate
The current activity definitions allow a fireteam of up to three and do not enable matchmaking for these mission variants. Arrange teammates before starting. Cooperative Focus also describes more frequent, heavily shielded and aggressive enemies. Current team size, matchmaking and modifier.
For an original preparation plan, agree on a short callout for stopping, grouping up and attempting a shared objective. Choose one player to check the next instruction and make sure everyone can report an on-screen prompt before combat begins.
A practical team plan
| Moment | Team action | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Before launch | Confirm quest stage and Cooperative Focus label. | Avoid a completion in the wrong activity version. |
| A shared prompt appears | Read it aloud and agree who will respond. | Keep simultaneous or shared actions coordinated. |
| The fight becomes crowded | Regroup near cover and clear immediate threats. | Create room to handle the objective. |
| Someone is down | Confirm recovery roles before pushing forward. | Keep the group from splitting during recovery. |
| Mission completion | Check the named Budding objective together. | Find missing credit before moving to the next mission. |
This is preparation guidance, not an exhaustive room-by-room puzzle walkthrough. Use the live encounter’s prompts to decide the exact action and timing. Avoid planning the cooperative quest as a solo farming route.
Check Mission Credit Before Repeating a Run
If progress is missing, start by checking the character’s active Budding quest, the exact mission variant and whether the activity was completed. Compare the three named objectives to find what remains rather than restarting the full chain immediately.
- Read which of Ascent, Dissent or Iconoclasm remains incomplete.
- Confirm the party selected Cooperative Focus Campaign, not another replay mode.
- Finish the activity and inspect the quest after the completion state.
- Return to Micah only when the three objectives are complete.
- If the recorded state still contradicts the completed objective, keep the mission details for a specific support report.
Bungie’s released Update 8.0.0.5 corrected a Cooperative Focus mission-unlocking issue. Launch-era reports about locked missions should not be repeated as proof that every current account has that unresolved problem. Released Cooperative Focus unlock correction.
Use the current launch screen for account access and activity conditions. An old guide’s launch-era Power figure is not a reason to ignore the settings shown today. The Power Level Guide explains current progression separately.
Understand Paracausal Beam and Imbuement
Paracausal Beam fires Kinetic damage and gives substantial bonus damage against shields. Microcosm is a Heavy-ammo Trace Rifle even though its damage type is Kinetic. Weapon slot, ammo type and damage type are different attributes. Current weapon and intrinsic definitions.
Paracausal Imbuement grants Super energy from final blows with Microcosm. It also gives the weapon bonus damage once your Super expires. A kill with another weapon and the moment you activate a Super are different conditions from those described. Current Imbuement conditions.
Microcosm effects and their triggers
| Effect | Qualifying condition | Original practice advice |
|---|---|---|
| Paracausal Beam | Apply the Kinetic beam against a shield. | Compare shield damage with the ordinary unshielded target. |
| Imbuement Super energy | Secure a final blow with Microcosm. | Check Super progress after a qualifying weapon defeat. |
| Imbuement damage benefit | Your Super expires. | Plan a safe firing position before returning to the weapon. |
| Catalyst Thresh | Defeat combatants with the weapon. | Observe the additional Super-energy behavior after upgrading. |
| Catalyst Stopping Power | The upgraded weapon’s Kinetic rounds affect combatants and low-health targets. | Compare stagger, target acquisition and low-health damage in a consistent activity. |
As a starting comparison, use a manageable activity to observe weapon final blows, spend your Super when the encounter calls for it, then return to Microcosm after the Super ends. Test the sequence before relying on it for a difficult damage window.
For ammo and ability support, the Armor Mods Guide helps you connect effects to qualifying actions. This guide does not assign an unverified universal damage percentage, ammo reserve or best-build ranking.
Find and Complete the Microcosm Catalyst
Microcosm has a Catalyst in the current weapon definition. Its current collection record lists Vanguard Ops, Gambit and Crucible as sources. Inspect that source entry and your acquired-Catalyst state rather than following an older claim that the weapon has no Catalyst. Current Catalyst and source record.
The completion objective requires 400 target defeats. Obtain the Catalyst, use Microcosm for its tracked progress, then confirm the completed upgrade is applied. Acquisition is a separate result from completing that objective. Current Catalyst completion objective.
The Catalyst item’s attached effects are Thresh and Stopping Power. Thresh generates a small amount of Super energy from combatant kills. Stopping Power describes easier combatant staggering and improved target acquisition and damage against low-health targets. Current attached Catalyst effects.
The current source record does not specify a guaranteed drop on each activity completion or a fixed number of runs. This guide also does not certify a guaranteed Exotic Order payout for this Catalyst. Plan your sessions around the actual available source and acquired state.
- Inspect the current Microcosm Catalyst source in Collections.
- Use an eligible listed activity and check whether the Catalyst was awarded.
- After acquisition, inspect the 400-defeat objective.
- Use the weapon for tracked progress and confirm the completed upgrade.
- Compare the upgraded weapon in the same activity before changing the wider loadout.
Choose the Correct CFNBoost Microcosm Package
In Destiny 2 Exotic Weapons & Catalysts, select “Microcosm · Full Convalescence quest.” The published package covers the full named Convalescence route, rather than only Rootbound or one mission. Have the required campaign and preceding Destined Heroes progress ready.
Exotic weapon acquisition packages
Destiny 2 Exotic Weapons & Catalysts
- Named Exotic acquisition routes
- Separate Catalyst objectives
- Activity-specific participation
Microcosm supports Piloted and Self-play. With Self-play, you control your Guardian and join the team; it adds 20% to the normal Piloted base. PC, PlayStation and Xbox share the same base. Choose your exact package and review its instant total in your preferred display currency.
The Microcosm acquisition selection does not include its Catalyst, unrelated campaigns or extra Guardians. The collection card displays a starting price for the wider Exotic service, so check the configured Microcosm total before ordering.
For advice on using a copy you already own, Destiny 2 coaching offers timed build and loadout advice. That is a separate goal from completing Convalescence or obtaining the Catalyst.
