Destiny 2 Weapon Crafting Guide: Patterns & Upgrades
Learn Destiny 2 Patterns, Deepsight Harmonizers, Shaping and Reshaping. Compare crafting with enhancement and check current weapon tier upgrades.
Weapon Crafting lets you build a weapon around a particular job instead of waiting for every perk to land on the same drop. Start by identifying the weapon and the route it supports: unlocking a Pattern, enhancing an existing roll and improving its gear tier are separate steps.
Reviewed October 14, 2026. This guide combines Bungie鈥檚 crafting instructions with released tier and material changes. It explains the workflow and common blockers without promising a particular drop or a fastest-farming method.
Crafting, Enhancement and Gear Tier
Choose the upgrade path before spending materials
| Path | What it changes |
|---|---|
| Crafting | Use an unlocked Pattern to Shape a weapon and choose its available components. |
| Enhancement | Upgrade eligible traits on an existing weapon roll. |
| Gear tier | Improve the tier of a supported item; this does not unlock a Pattern. |
Bungie鈥檚 crafting guide explains Pattern-based Shaping; its enhancement framework describes improving an existing eligible weapon. The June release adds current gear-tier improvements. Check the chosen item鈥檚 actual options before treating these paths as interchangeable. Crafting instructions. Enhancement framework. Released gear-tier changes.
Open Crafting, Then Check the Exact Pattern
Bungie鈥檚 introduction uses the opening Witch Queen campaign missions, available free, to unlock crafting. Shaping takes place at the Relic in the Enclave, reached through the Throne World destination. Official unlock and Relic guidance.
Update 9.7.0 allows a Deepsight red-border weapon obtained before that introduction to give Pattern progress when dismantled. Collecting progress and gaining access to the crafting station are different steps. Released early-Pattern progress correction.
Choose one weapon to work on and read its own progress requirement. Do not assume that every Pattern needs the same number of copies. Keep the weapon name and remaining progress visible in your plan before repeating an activity.
Claim Red-Border Progress Without Losing the Roll You Need
Pattern progress can be claimed through weapon inspection or by dismantling a Deepsight weapon. Bungie鈥檚 guide also describes quest-based Pattern unlocks. Confirm the progress notification before treating a copy as counted. Official Pattern-progress instructions.
If you want to keep the dropped roll, inspect its available extraction option first. Separate the decision to claim progress from the decision to keep or discard the weapon. A useful existing roll can remain useful while you work toward a crafted version.
- Read the exact weapon name and Pattern state.
- Check the available progress action on the copy you actually own.
- Confirm the resulting progress before moving to another copy.
- Decide separately whether you still want that weapon in your inventory.
Deepsight Harmonizers: Check the Copy Before Activation
A Harmonizer activates Deepsight on an eligible craftable weapon. Bungie鈥檚 current inventory guide excludes copies with Deepsight already available or completed and notes the additional Spoils requirement for raid weapons. Current material and activation guidance.
Bungie鈥檚 original activation rules also exclude an already-unlocked Pattern, repeat activation on one copy and copies purchased from raid vendors. That announcement distinguishes supported X没r and Gunsmith purchases. Check the selected copy鈥檚 activation slot rather than assuming every weapon with the same name is eligible. Dated activation-eligibility rules.
The released Chronolog Exchange lists a Harmonizer at 300 Chronologs, once per two weeks. Older Season-Pass-only descriptions do not cover this route. Check the current exchange display for your purchase state. Released Chronolog Exchange update.
Spend a limited material on the goal you have actually chosen. Before buying a weapon for activation, check whether the copy supports it and whether the Pattern is still incomplete. Do not buy several identical vendor copies on the assumption that each will produce another progress step.
Shape a Starting Roll, Then Reshape When Ready
At the Relic, choose the intrinsic, barrel, magazine and traits offered for that weapon. More components unlock as its weapon level increases; Reshape updates an existing crafted weapon to use them. Official Shaping and Reshaping workflow.
Choose a starting roll you can use while learning the weapon. Think about the job first: controlling a group, keeping damage on a target or handling an ammo-sensitive encounter. A combination that looks impressive on paper may be awkward for the way you actually play.
- Decide what the weapon should do in your usual activity.
- Review the components available at its current level.
- Read the displayed cost before confirming the chosen setup.
- Test the starting combination before paying to change several parts at once.
Weapon Level and Materials
Bungie鈥檚 crafting guide lists enemy defeats, completed activities with the weapon equipped and direct material upgrades as leveling routes. Read the next component鈥檚 requirement before investing more levels. Official weapon-level guidance.
The current inventory reference distinguishes Enhancement Cores, Prisms, Ascendant Alloys and Spoils rather than treating them as one currency. Use the cost shown for the exact operation you selected. Bungie鈥檚 currency and material reference.
Keep leveling, a perk purchase and a tier improvement separate in your budget. If a component remains locked, inspect its stated requirement before assuming you need to gather more of every material. This guide does not present one universal recipe or current vendor inventory for every weapon.
Enhancement: Upgrade the Roll You Already Have
Bungie鈥檚 documented enhancement framework
| Step | Effect |
|---|---|
| Tier 1 | Adds an enhanced intrinsic, weapon level and memento support. |
| Tier 2 路 weapon level 11 | Upgrades eligible left-column traits. |
| Tier 3 路 weapon level 17 | Upgrades eligible right-column traits. |
These stages are documented in Bungie鈥檚 May 2024 framework. Inspect the current weapon鈥檚 enhancement socket for eligibility and costs; the old list of qualifying activities is not a complete current eligibility list. Enhancement does not turn an unwanted trait into your preferred alternative. Enhancement stages and eligibility context.
That framework distinguishes supported raid Adepts, which can adjust their first two columns at the Relic, from ordinary enhanced drops. Do not treat every enhanced weapon as having the full component choices of a crafted weapon. Raid Adept reshaping distinction.
Current Gear-Tier Improvements
Update 9.7.0 lets crafted weapons and Reshape-capable raid Adepts reach Gear Tier 5 through Weapon Level Boost and the crafting table. The added stat benefit requires an Enhanced Intrinsic. Enhanced weapon mods unlock at Gear Tier 3. Released crafted-weapon tier changes.
Weapon level, gear tier and Pattern progress answer different questions. If a tier has improved but a component is still unavailable, read the component requirement. If a Pattern is complete but the Relic is inaccessible, return to the crafting introduction instead of collecting more copies.
Plan the Activity Around the Pattern You Want
Check the current activity and reward preview for the chosen weapon. A raid completion is an opportunity to obtain relevant loot, not a guarantee that it finishes a Pattern. Read the raid and dungeon rotation guide before deciding which run to repeat.
For a named activity, the Root of Nightmares encounter guide helps with preparation. Use the encounter explanation and the weapon鈥檚 actual source together; do not assume every weapon you want appears in the same reward pool.
Choose an Accurate CFNBoost Goal
The raid service offers named completion objectives, including Root of Nightmares full clears. Supported group Self-play adds 20% to the selected Piloted package. A clear is separate from a guaranteed red-border drop or complete Pattern.
The coaching service offers one-, two- and three-hour build and loadout discussions. Self-play is included in those advice-session prices. Choose an available goal and review its total in your preferred display currency before adding it to the cart.

Weapon Crafting FAQ
Progress, eligibility and spending decisions
Is an enhanced drop the same as a crafted weapon?
They follow different upgrade paths. Read the item鈥檚 available options rather than assuming an enhanced roll offers all the component choices of a crafted weapon.
Should I discard a useful roll just because I want its Pattern?
Check the available progress action in inspection first. Claiming progress and deciding whether to keep the roll are separate decisions.
Does every Pattern require the same number of copies?
Read the selected weapon鈥檚 own requirement and remaining progress. This guide does not apply one copy count to every Pattern.
Can I assume every identical vendor copy accepts a Harmonizer?
No. Check the actual copy鈥檚 eligibility and activation slot before buying it for that purpose.
Should I pay for several changes before testing the weapon?
Start with a setup you can use, test it in your usual activity and change one part at a time. Read the displayed cost before each confirmation.
Why should I track weapon level and gear tier separately?
They describe different upgrade progress. When an option remains locked, read its own requirement instead of assuming another upgrade unlocks everything.
Does the raid card guarantee a completed crafting Pattern?
No. It sells the selected completion objective. A specific random drop and finished Pattern are separate goals.
Does coaching add another 20% for Self-play?
No. Self-play is included in the current advice-session price. The boosting participation premium applies to supported group clear selections instead.
