Destiny 2 Conditional Finality Guide: Acquisition & Catalyst

Get Conditional Finality from Root of Nightmares, check drop boosts, learn its Stasis and Solar pellet conditions, and review the current Catalyst and service scope.

Game:Destiny 2GuidesPublished: By CFNBoost
A short double-barrel exotic shotgun divided between icy blue crystals and warm solar fire, held by an armored Guardian in a cosmic raid setting.

Conditional Finality is the Exotic Special-ammo Shotgun from Root of Nightmares. Its two barrels use Stasis and Solar damage, with freeze and ignition effects tied to landing nearly all of the relevant pellets. Weapon acquisition, the Catalyst and the completed upgrade are separate goals.

Reviewed October 15, 2026. This guide covers Root of Nightmares acquisition, current legacy Exotic attempts, eleven drop-boost Triumphs, the weapon’s pellet conditions and its present Catalyst. It also explains the scope of CFNBoost’s named weapon-acquisition package.

Get Conditional Finality From Root of Nightmares

The current weapon collection lists Root of Nightmares as the source. Plan the Nezarec acquisition encounter and inspect the actual reward after completion. A normal raid clear is an opportunity to earn rewards, rather than a promise that the Exotic will drop. Current weapon source.

Bungie’s March 2023 raid announcement describes Conditional Finality as the raid Exotic and recommends completing challenges to improve acquisition chances. Its Contest details are historical; use today’s activity settings and reward rules when planning a run. Original Bungie raid context.

Check access and Guardian readiness on the current raid launch screen. Bungie Help lists Root of Nightmares among available raids and explains present expansion access. Available raids. Current access guidance.

The Root of Nightmares Guide covers encounter preparation. Decide whether the group is learning the raid, attempting a named Triumph or pursuing the weapon so everyone understands the goal.

Plan Legacy Exotic Attempts

Released Update 9.1.0.2 removed weekly lockouts on Exotic weapon rewards in legacy raids and dungeons. Each completion of the source encounter can offer another chance. For this older raid, do not use its launch-era one-chance-per-class weekly explanation as the current farming rule. Released legacy Exotic reward change.

Eligible repeat attempts still have random outcomes. A long dry streak does not establish a guaranteed next drop, and ordinary raid gear, focusing and weekly challenges follow their own rules. Use the Raid and Dungeon Rotation Guide when planning those additional rewards.

  1. Confirm Root of Nightmares access on the intended Guardian.
  2. Choose weapon acquisition, learning or a specific challenge as the session goal.
  3. Check earned Triumphs and claim their drop-boost rewards.
  4. Agree a manageable team session for the eligible encounter.
  5. Complete the encounter and inspect the reward.
  6. After receiving the Shotgun, review the Catalyst and practice its pellet conditions separately.

Review Eleven Initial-Drop Triumphs

Eleven current Triumph records award an initial Conditional Finality drop-rate effect. Ten award the ordinary increase; Living Nightmares awards the separately named greater increase. The descriptions do not publish exact percentages. Current Triumph rewards.

Psionic PurgeIn Cataclysm, defeat every Psion within one second of the others.Coordinate the defeats.

Dream WeaversComplete every raid encounter with a full team using Strand subclasses.Confirm the team’s subclass choices.
Living NightmaresComplete every raid encounter without any fireteam member dying.Treat flawless as a distinct goal; it awards the greater boost.

A flawless run is not a universal prerequisite for obtaining the weapon. Start with objectives that fit your team, then claim the named rewards you earn. A boost improves the pursuit without promising a fixed-clear result.

Understand Split Decision and Paracausal Pellets

Split Decision describes dual barrels divided between Stasis and Solar damage and identifies the weapon as strong against Unstoppable Champions. Paracausal Pellets supplies the activation condition: nearly all Stasis pellets must land to freeze, and nearly all Solar pellets must land to ignite. Current intrinsic and trait definitions.

A partial hit is not enough to assume either effect. Practice at a range where you can land a concentrated spread, confirm which shot is ready and leave yourself a route back to cover. The trigger is pellet connection, not simply equipping a Solar or Stasis subclass.

Match the effect to its qualifying action

EffectRequired actionWhat to check
Paracausal freezeLand nearly all Stasis pellets.Range, spread and target coverage.
Paracausal ignitionLand nearly all Solar pellets. The active shot and how much of the spread connects.
Unstoppable useThe intrinsic names Unstoppable Champions.Do not assume it gives every other weapon a Champion effect.
Catalyst: RimestealerDestroy a Stasis crystal or defeat a frozen target using this weapon. That qualifying destruction or defeat grants Frost Armor.
Catalyst: Heal ClipReload shortly after a final blow. The qualifying reload grants Cure to you and nearby allies.

Use Current PvE and PvP Conditions

In PvE, test pellet coverage on suitable enemies before relying on the freeze or ignition during a dangerous push. Pair the Shotgun with a reliable option for targets you cannot safely approach. The Armor Mods Guide helps you plan supporting ammo and ability effects.

For PvP, older clips can show behavior that was later corrected. Released Update 8.0.5 reduced base handling and corrected freezing players inside Well of Radiance. That dated change is a reason to test today’s matchup rather than assume every historical Super-counter clip remains reproducible. Released handling and Well correction.

Released Update 9.0.0.5 also corrected a bug where equipping Conditional Finality let other equipped weapons stun Overload Champions. Build around the actual weapon and effect descriptions instead of that old unintended interaction. Released Overload interaction correction.

Get and Complete the Current Catalyst

Conditional Finality currently has a Catalyst attached to its weapon socket. It adds Heal Clip and Rimestealer. The Catalyst collection record describes acquisition broadly as a raid or dungeon; it does not identify a guaranteed award on a particular clear. Inspect your in-game record before choosing an acquisition session. Current Catalyst attachment and source.

Its completion objective requires 400 target defeats using Conditional Finality. After acquiring the Catalyst, finish the tracked objective and apply the completed upgrade. The weapon drop itself does not complete this progress.

Rimestealer grants Frost Armor when this weapon destroys a Stasis crystal or defeats a frozen target. Freezing an enemy alone is a different action from defeating it. Heal Clip grants Cure after a reload shortly following a final blow; an unrelated reload does not satisfy that condition. Current Catalyst perk conditions.

  1. Inspect whether the Catalyst is already acquired.
  2. Check its current source record if it is missing.
  3. Track the 400-defeat objective on the weapon after acquisition.
  4. Finish the objective and apply the upgrade.
  5. Practice a qualifying frozen-target defeat and a final-blow-then-reload sequence.

Choose Conditional Finality Weapon Acquisition

In Destiny 2 Exotic Weapons & Catalysts, select “Conditional Finality · Weapon acquisition.” This is the named acquisition objective on one Guardian. The listed weapon package excludes the Catalyst and unlisted upgrade work.

Piloted and Self-play are available. Self-play means you control your Guardian and join the team; it adds 20% of the normal Piloted base. PC, PlayStation and Xbox share the same base. Review the exact selection and instant total in your preferred display currency.

The wider Exotic collection has a starting price, while the selected objective determines your total. Random weapon acquisition can need repeated eligible completions. Priority choices do not promise a first-clear drop or a fixed finish time.
