WoW Forever PvP at a glance: ranks, Rank Points and Darkspear Islands

WoW Forever PvP runs on two separate tracks: Honor, which you spend on gear, and Rank Points, which move you up the 14 classic ranks toward High Warlord or Grand Marshal. Ranks have a weekly cap, there is no leaderboard race, and a new 15v15 battleground, Darkspear Islands, adds its own reputation vendors. Here is how all of it fits together before the November 4, 2026 launch.

WoW Forever PvP infographic: 14 PvP ranks with epic weapons at rank 14, a weekly Rank Point cap, 3 Legacy Points per season, Darkspear Islands 15v15 for levels 30 to 60 won at 2,000 points, and launch on November 4, 2026.
Only Blizzard-announced PvP facts. The weekly cap value and season length are not published yet.

Honor and Rank Points: two currencies, two jobs

The biggest change from the original 2004 Honor System is that Forever splits PvP progress in two. Honor is a currency. You earn it by killing enemy players, finishing battlegrounds and completing PvP quests, and you spend it on gear. Rank Points are your progress bar. They come from battlegrounds and PvP quests and decide which of the 14 ranks you hold.

Because the two are separate, spending Honor never costs you rank. You can buy a piece the moment you can afford it and still keep climbing. Blizzard calls the design goal "approachable and familiar": the old rank names and titles are back, the stress of the old system is not.

Blizzard also reviewed Honor gains across every battleground so that players do not feel forced into Alterac Valley just because it pays best. During holiday weeks, the highlighted battleground gives more Honor and more Rank Points, so those weeks are still the best time to push.

The weekly rank cap and why there is no race

In the original game, your rank depended on where you stood against everyone else on your server each week. Missing a few days could send you backwards, which is why people played battlegrounds in shifts. Forever drops that: your ranks come from your own Rank Points, not from beating other players on a weekly list.

The catch is a weekly cap on ranks. You cannot reach High Warlord or Grand Marshal in one long weekend, however much you play. Blizzard has not published the cap value yet, so treat any number you see before launch as a guess. The practical advice is simple: hit the cap every week instead of trying to binge.

You can check where you stand at any time. Open the Character Pane (C) and pick the Player vs. Player tab on the right. It shows your current rank, your Rank Points and the rewards open to you at that rank.

Every PvP rank reward from 1 to 14

Each rank unlocks something on the PvP vendors. Blizzard published the full list, and it is worth knowing because the epic upgrade tokens start at rank 8.

WoW Forever PvP rank rewards

RankUnlocks
1Tabard
2PvP Trinket
3Cloaks
4Necklace
5Combat Potions
6Tabard
7Battle Standard
8Epic Bracers / Epic Belt upgrade token
9Epic Boots upgrade token
10Epic Gloves upgrade token
11Mounts
12Epic Legs / Epic Shoulders upgrade token
13Epic Chest / Epic Helm upgrade token
14Epic Weapons

Two ranks stand out. Rank 2 gives the PvP trinket, which matters for every class in battlegrounds, so it is the first real goal. Rank 11 unlocks the PvP mounts, which is the point where most casual players will feel the grind has paid off.

PvP gear: blue sets, epic upgrades and Emboldened Seals

Honor buys two PvP sets: a blue-quality set and an epic-quality set. You do not buy the epic piece outright. You take the blue piece and combine it with an Emboldened Seal, and each seal has a rank requirement before you can buy it. That is why the rank table above lists upgrade tokens slot by slot.

  1. Earn Honor and buy the blue piece for a slot.
  2. Reach the rank that unlocks that slot's epic upgrade token (rank 8 for bracers and belt, rank 13 for chest and helm).
  3. Buy the Emboldened Seal and upgrade the blue piece to epic.

Blizzard also added new and reworked items for specs that had no real PvP gear in the original game. Shamans, for example, get separate healer, melee and caster sets. Blizzard has not listed the Honor cost of each piece or the exact seal requirements, so plan by rank, not by price.

PvP seasons and Legacy Points

PvP in Forever runs in seasons. During a season you climb ranks and earn Honor; when a new one starts, progress resets. Each season has a journey of weekly tasks that pay out extra Honor and Rank Points, and three of those tasks also give a Legacy Point.

Legacy Points belong to Forever's account-wide Legacy System, so they do not reset with the season. The three PvP tasks stay available in later seasons too, which means a player who misses one season can still pick them up afterwards. Blizzard has not announced how long a season lasts.

Darkspear Islands: the new 15v15 battleground

Darkspear Islands is a new battleground off the coast of Dustwallow Marsh. It is 15v15, open to levels 30 to 60, and mixes capture points with a flag. Its size sits between the small and large classic maps, so it should queue faster than Alterac Valley and play slower than a flag map.

  • Win condition: the first team to 2,000 points wins.
  • Capture points: four bases across the islands. The more you hold, the faster your score rises.
  • Center flag: a single flag in the middle of the map. Carry it to any base your team controls for bonus points.
  • Factions: the Horde fights as the Darkspear Raiders from the Merchant Coast; the Alliance fights as the Theramore Expeditionary Force from Northwatch.
  • Queue: talk to a battlemaster in any capital or in the Barrens, or use the portal at your faction's base camp.

In practice, hold two bases firmly and send a small group for the flag. Chasing all four bases spreads a team thin, while the flag lets a team that is behind on bases catch up.

Darkspear reputation, Marks of Honor and the tabard

Each Darkspear Islands faction has its own reputation. Reaching new standing unlocks gear and consumables from the vendors at your base camp: trinkets, rings, cloaks, weapons and armor. Battleground quests are picked up at the same bases.

Marks of Honor from the battleground can be turned in on reputation quests, so every match moves you forward even when you lose. At Exalted, a short questline unlocks the faction's own tabard. For players levelling between 30 and 60, this reputation is a second source of gear on top of the Honor vendors.

Matchmaking, arenas and rulesets

In an October developer Q&A, as reported by guided.news, Blizzard said full premade groups should be matched against other full premades in standard battlegrounds, while solo players and small groups should not face them. Where the line between a small group and a premade sits is not final.

The same report says arenas and rated battlegrounds are not planned for launch, free transfers between Normal and PvP rulesets are not planned, and the PvP ruleset keeps an account-wide faction restriction. Pick your ruleset carefully at character creation, because switching means a new character. Blizzard has not confirmed these points in a news post, so check again after launch.

WoW Forever PvP FAQ

Does WoW Forever have rank decay?

Not in the original sense. Ranks come from your own Rank Points, not a weekly standing against other players, so taking a week off does not push you down a rank within the season. Progress resets when a new PvP season starts.

How long does it take to reach rank 14 in WoW Forever?

It depends on the weekly rank cap, which Blizzard has not published yet. Because ranks are capped per week, nobody can reach rank 14 in a single weekend; it takes a set number of weeks of capped play.

Are arenas in WoW Forever?

Not at launch, according to Blizzard's October developer Q&A as reported by guided.news. Rated battlegrounds are not planned for launch either.

What is the best battleground for Honor in WoW Forever?

Blizzard rebalanced Honor so no single battleground is the clear best choice. The best pick each week is the highlighted holiday battleground, which gives extra Honor and Rank Points.

What level do you need for Darkspear Islands?

Darkspear Islands is open to characters from level 30 to 60. You can queue from a battlemaster in any capital or the Barrens, or through the portal at your faction's base camp.
