The Diablo 4 Season 16 PTR (patch 3.3.0) is live on PC from October 27 to November 3, 2026, and it is the clearest look we have at the next season. Blizzard is testing a new way to steer War Plans, a seasonal boon tree called Tyrael's Boons, Horadric items that bend Talisman set rules, and a long list of class changes. Here is what is on the test realm, how to join, and what we would test before the season goes live.

The Season 16 PTR at a glance. Details and our testing advice are in the sections below.

Season 16 PTR dates and how to join

The test realm for patch 3.3.0 opened on October 27 at 10 a.m. PDT and closes on November 3 at 10 a.m. PST. Note the clock change: US daylight saving ends during the test, so the close time is listed in standard time. The patch notes are marked PC only, so console players can read along but not play.

  1. Open Battle.net and select Diablo IV in your Games list.
  2. Switch the version. Use the game version dropdown above the Play button and pick the Public Test Realm.
  3. Install and play. The PTR is a separate install, so plan for the download.
  4. Pick a Test Server after logging in.
  5. Create a new Seasonal character if you want to test Tyrael's Boons and the other seasonal content. Eternal characters only see the non-seasonal changes.

PC Game Pass and Game Pass Ultimate members can join too, through the Battle.net client launched from the Xbox app. Once in, look for Mrak, the PTR vendor near the main Waypoint in major cities. He hands out testing boosts such as Level 70, Paragon 200, all Glyphs, all Uniques, max Tyrael's Boons and Seasonal Horadric items, so you can jump straight to endgame testing.

War Plans Tactics and Marks of Wisdom

War Plans are getting a layer of control on both Seasonal and Eternal realms. As you complete War Plans activities you earn points to spend in War Plans Tactics. Each activity node takes up to 3 points and raises the chance that activity shows up in your plan. Putting at least 1 point into Helltides or Nightmare Dungeons also opens a choice that makes Greater Helltides or Escalation Dungeons more likely.

Reward nodes work the same way, again up to 3 points each. The reward types are Armor, Weapons, Jewelry, Obducite, Salvage, Gems, Gold, Activity Keys, Horadric Cube materials and Talisman items. In practice this means you can point your War Plans at the exact thing your build is missing instead of rolling the dice every time.

  • Marks of Wisdom are a new currency earned by turning in completed War Plans.
  • They replace gold for respeccing War Plans Tactics and the individual activity trees.
  • They are capped at 20 on the PTR, so test how quickly you burn through them if you respec often.
  • Our tip: on the PTR, try one build-focused setup (for example Talisman items plus Horadric Cube materials) and one gold-and-keys setup, and compare an hour of each.

Tyrael's Boons: the four seasonal paths

Tyrael's Boons is the Season 16 theme tree. It is Seasonal only, it sits inside War Plans, and you do not need the Lord of Hatred expansion to use it. The tree holds up to 132 points, which is enough to take 4 of the 6 selections across its four paths. Removing a point costs 5,000,000 gold, so plan before you click.

Tyrael's Boons paths (PTR 3.3.0)

PathWhat it changesWho should take it
Curious AdditionUpgrades the Purveyor of Curiosities: a chance at a second item, better item types or quality, or a pricier option with higher Ancestral chances.Players gambling for a specific slot or a missing Ancestral piece
Merchant of MysteryAdds a Torment-difficulty merchant who sells caches for Forgotten Souls, with options to pay in Runes or Gems and to improve Ancestral caches.Players already farming Torment who have Forgotten Souls to spare
Scent of GoldBoosts gold and experience, Horadric Cube materials, Gem Fragments, monster gold and gem drops, and Legendary chance.Fresh seasonal characters and anyone short on gold
Trash for TreasureCheaper Alchemist transmutes, extra Forgotten Souls, Obducite, Salvage and Scrolls of Restoration, plus the Greater Temper recipe.Min-maxers pushing Greater Affixes on finished gear

The Greater Temper recipe is the standout: 30 Scrolls of Restoration and 1,000 Obducite upgrade a Tempered affix to a Greater Affix. Season Blessings stay, but they become a static system that offers the same five Blessings every time, and Tyrael's Boons does not replace them. Our early read: start a new seasonal character in Scent of Gold, then move into Trash for Treasure once your build is complete.

Horadric items and Talisman sets

Horadric items are a new Legendary item type tied to the Death Cult of Ullo Sar. They interact with Talisman sets in two ways, and both are worth testing because they change how many charms you need.

  • Horadric jewelry raises the set bonus count of its matching Talisman set by 1. You only need 1 charm to activate the 2-piece bonus, unlike the Seal of the Diamond Mind.
  • Horadric armor and weapons add new effects that switch on when you have at least a 2-piece bonus from a defined Talisman set. Blizzard's examples include skill rank bonuses, bonus damage and defensive improvements.
  • What to test: whether a Horadric ring frees a charm slot for a stronger single charm, and whether the armor effects beat your current Legendary aspects in the same slot.

Class changes worth testing

All eight classes have tuning on the PTR. These are the changes we think move builds the most. Numbers are PTR values and can still change.

Two system-wide changes also matter for every class: area damage-over-time effects now benefit from DoT Duration bonuses, and several Uniques were retuned, including Thundergod's Blessing (300-350%) and Banished Lord's Talisman (Critical Strike Damage down to 80-100%).

Endgame, gear and quality-of-life changes

  • Pandemonium's Dual Threat: the Fractured Reaper joins the Corrupted Reaper and the two lair bosses fight together. Blizzard promises better loot for a harder fight.
  • Infernal Hordes, the Pit and Lair Bosses are reworked. The PTR overview does not list the details, so check the full patch notes before you plan a push.
  • Helltides now start on the hour in base-game zones and at the 30-minute mark in expansion zones, and Aberrant Cinders no longer reset between Helltides.
  • Mounts are faster by default, with less gain from spurring.
  • Runes: Que offering 300 to 500 and Lac offering 400 to 600.
  • Aspects: Moonrise damage 40-60% to 60-80%.

How to prepare for Season 16

  1. Test your main class on the PTR this week. Use Mrak's boosts to reach Paragon 200 and try your build with the new numbers before the window closes on November 3.
  2. Pick your Tyrael's Boons route in advance. At 5 million gold per removed point, a planned route saves real time on day one.
  3. Decide your War Plans focus. Write down which reward nodes your build needs most so you can spend your first Tactics points immediately.
  4. Plan the Talisman slot. If a Horadric ring adds a set piece for you, you may be able to drop one charm for a stronger single charm.
  5. Watch for the live patch notes. PTR numbers usually change, so re-check your class before committing materials on launch day.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is the Diablo 4 Season 16 PTR?

The patch 3.3.0 Public Test Realm runs from October 27, 2026 at 10 a.m. PDT to November 3, 2026 at 10 a.m. PST. It is available on PC through Battle.net, including PC Game Pass and Game Pass Ultimate via the Xbox app.

When does Diablo 4 Season 16 start?

Blizzard has not announced the Season 16 launch date yet. Seasons usually go live a few weeks after the PTR closes, and the new season starts when Season 15, Season of Hell's Legacy, ends. We will update this guide once Blizzard confirms the date.

How do I join the Diablo 4 PTR?

Open Battle.net, select Diablo IV, choose Public Test Realm in the version dropdown above the Play button, install it and press Play. Pick a Test Server and create a new character. Make it Seasonal if you want to test Tyrael's Boons.

Do I need Lord of Hatred for Tyrael's Boons?

No. Blizzard's PTR overview says Tyrael's Boons is a Seasonal-only War Plans tree that does not require the Lord of Hatred expansion.

What are Marks of Wisdom in Diablo 4?

Marks of Wisdom are a new currency earned by turning in completed War Plans. You spend them instead of gold to respec nodes in War Plans Tactics and the individual activity trees. They are capped at 20 on the PTR.

Does PTR progress carry over to the live game?

No. The Public Test Realm is a separate test environment, so characters and items made there stay on the PTR. Use it to test builds, not to get a head start.
