Destiny 2 Warlord’s Ruin Guide: Encounters & Rewards
Plan Warlord’s Ruin cages, totems, Solar Charges and Hex transfers. Check current rewards and compare full-clear, last-boss, Master and solo objectives.
Warlord’s Ruin rewards a team that can free cages, finish totem captures and move together between damage positions. Each boss adds a different pressure: Rathil’s rising cages, Locus’s cold and Hefnd’s lethal Hex. Learn which state must be cleared before committing to damage.
Reviewed October 14, 2026. This guide summarizes the ordinary dungeon, preparation and current completion choices. Player references support encounter mechanics; Bungie supports current access and reward rules. Role plans are original editorial advice, not measured DPS rankings or CFNBoost PRO footage.
Warlord’s Ruin: Three Bosses and a Prison Puzzle
A compact route and responsibility plan
| Encounter | Main mechanic | Assignment to agree |
|---|---|---|
| Rathil | Escape the cage and cleanse Wish Totems. | Eye scanning, capture calls and room control. |
| Locus of Wailing Grief | Create Solar Charges and light four braziers. | Cold monitoring, carriers and shared rotation. |
| Hefnd’s Vengeance | Capture totems, transfer Hex and advance through platforms. | Chieftain control, Hex confirmation and eyes. |
Name one caller for the next transition and one backup for an interrupted task. The plan should cover a cage escape, a player still carrying a charge and a Hex that returns after transfer. Keep the required action visible in the HUD before announcing that it is complete.
Before Launch: Access and the Completion Goal
Check the live activity card for access, difficulty and modifiers. Bungie still requires the corresponding expansion or Dungeon Key for specific activities. Current raid and dungeon access guidance.
Decide whether you want a Normal clear, a last-boss completion, Master or a solo objective. A quest, Bones route, specific reward or Catalyst adds its own work. Do not use an old launch Power number or seasonal loadout as a substitute for reading the current card.
Wish Totems and the Damage Window
Stand inside a Wish Totem’s ring until the capture completes. At Rathil and Hefnd, successful captures contribute to the damage opportunity when Imminent Wish ends; at Locus, they produce Solar Charges instead. Original player mechanic comparison.
A Chieftain can create a totem while alive and another on defeat. When time allows, identify the cast before killing it, but avoid waiting so long that the group cannot finish a capture. Watch the actual device and buff state rather than assuming a few seconds inside the circle was enough.
Rathil: Free the Cage Before Capturing
Destroy the three floating eyes around your rising cage, then return to cleanse the available totems before Imminent Wish expires. Completed captures open Naeem’s Wish Empowerment for damage. Player Rathil walkthrough.
- Scan around the cage, including above and below its edge, and shoot the three eyes.
- Call a hard-to-see eye so a teammate can help from another angle.
- Drop safely, move to the called ring and confirm the totem is cleansed.
- Damage during the empowerment window, then reset when immunity returns.
Agree a simple capture call such as “near totem complete” before starting. A player still trapped should ask for the missing eye immediately; the rest of the team should not assume that every cage opens at the same time. Prioritize a completed capture over splitting attention between two rings you cannot finish.
Escape the Prison: Count the Moving Dials
The prison has six shootable dials, skeleton tally clues and a confirmation lock. Set the required clockwise and counterclockwise totals, then shoot the lock. Read each dial’s motion rather than relying on how many times someone thinks they shot it. Prison-puzzle walkthrough.
The later community review explains the clue using the skeleton’s own hand: right for clockwise and left for counterclockwise. Use that orientation and repeat both totals before confirming. Reviewed clue-orientation explanation.
- Have one player read the clues and state the two direction totals.
- Assign each visible dial and check its actual movement.
- Count all six states, with none unintentionally stopped.
- Confirm at the lock; if it rejects the solution, recheck only the uncertain states.
Avoid everyone shooting at once after a failed confirmation. Restate the totals, then let each responsible player report the state of their dial. In the passages afterward, watch spike panels and confirm the landing before committing to a jump.
Locus: Cold, Charges and Four Braziers
Destroy the eye wave, cleanse Chieftain totems and take the resulting Solar Charges to four braziers. During the storm, use the edge shelter to clear Biting Cold. Lighting all four opens damage. Player Locus preparation and charge guide.
- Agree who monitors the cold state and who handles each charge.
- Cleanse reachable totems without abandoning the route back to shelter.
- Carry each charge directly to an unlit brazier and confirm its deposit.
- Start damage near one lit brazier, then rotate together when its window ends.
The active brazier provides the damage and shelter states; move to another as the current one expires. Locus damage-rotation reference.
Do not let the final deposit start the phase while the group is unprepared. The carrier should announce it so teammates can take the agreed position. Choose a rotation everyone can follow, and report cold or a missed charge before treating the attempt as a weapon-damage problem.
Hefnd: Transfer Hex and Confirm It Left Your HUD
Hefnd’s lower platforms repeat an eye, Chieftain and totem cycle. Melee a Hex-Drinker to transfer Hex of Vengeful Corruption before its timer expires, then create distance: an enemy melee can pass it back. Original player Hex explanation.
- Clear eyes and unsafe ground, then control the spawned Chieftains.
- Identify the captures you can finish while locating a Hex-Drinker.
- Transfer the Hex, retreat and confirm the debuff has left your HUD.
- Use the empowerment window to reach the health gate and follow the boss upward.
The later reviewed walkthrough describes three large lower platforms followed by three upper damage islands. Clear eyes during those upper windows and rotate when the boss changes state. If final stand is not reached, prepare to repeat the lower route. Reviewed platform progression.
Each player holding Hex must handle their own transfer; a designated caller helps coordinate it but cannot remove another player’s debuff by making the call. If Hex returns, handle that state before trying to squeeze in one more capture. During damage, keep an eye-clear responsibility instead of having every player ignore new threats.
A Checklist for Repeated Failed Attempts
Identify the failed step before rebuilding the loadout
| Observation | Next adjustment to try |
|---|---|
| One cage eye keeps being missed | Assign a scan direction and an adjacent helper. |
| Capture progress is assumed too early | Confirm the device state before leaving its ring. |
| The charge phase starts with scattered players | Announce the last deposit and shared starting brazier. |
| Hex returns after a transfer | Create distance and recheck the HUD before resuming. |
Change one responsibility at a time and compare the next attempt. Keep a familiar defensive option for the moments spent reading clues, capturing a ring or changing platforms. A clean transition can be more useful than chasing a larger single damage number.
Current Dungeon Rewards: Featured Status Matters
Bungie’s released June framework gives older dungeons tiered weapons and armor. The featured/non-featured distinction and selected difficulty determine the published reward rules. Released dungeon-reward framework.
Read these rules alongside the live activity preview
| Activity state | Published reward rule |
|---|---|
| Featured Standard or Master encounters | Tier 5 weapons and armor; farmable under the stated framework. |
| Featured Director Challenge and hidden chests | Tier 5 rewards with the specified weekly lockout. |
| Non-featured Standard | Tier 3 weapons and armor. |
| Non-featured Master | Tier 5 weapons and armor. |
Check the current card for the actual week, modifiers and reward selection. An older Artifice headline or blanket weekly limit should not replace the new tiered rules. A Master completion also does not mean that every optional record or desired roll is included.
Buried Bloodline, Bones and the Catalyst
Buried Bloodline is associated with the final-encounter reward pool. A clear is a reward opportunity, not an automatic guarantee of that Exotic. Bones, quest progress and the Catalyst are separate goals. Reviewed reward and optional-progress reference.
The historical Catalyst walkthrough describes access through In the Shadow of the Mountain, three torch-to-totem puzzles and an optional boss. Confirm the weapon and quest state before adding that route. Buried Bloodline Catalyst-route reference.
Plan optional stops before launch and read the current objective for its exact completion requirements. This page does not promise a specific random reward, every bone location or a Catalyst included with a dungeon-clear selection.

Live Normal-speed quotes checked October 14, 2026
| Selected objective · one Guardian | Piloted USD | Self-play USD |
|---|---|---|
| Normal full clear | $4.49 | $5.39 |
| Normal last boss: Hefnd | $2.69 | $3.23 |

| Solo Flawless | $21.59 | Not offered |
These ten selected quotes use PC, NA and Normal speed. Piloted means the PRO controls your character; Self-play means you participate on your own Guardian. The supported Self-play totals include the participation surcharge. Solo and Solo Flawless are Piloted-only objectives in the current configurator.
Choose the exact package: a last-boss selection differs from a full clear, and Solo completion differs from Solo Flawless. Faster-speed choices have separate prices. No listed clear package guarantees Buried Bloodline, its Catalyst, the whole quest or a complete title.

Warlord’s Ruin FAQ
Mechanics, goals and participation
What should a first-clear team agree before launch?
Choose the goal, assign cage and capture calls, and agree the charge rotation and Hex confirmation. Read the live activity card for access and selected difficulty.
Does shooting a totem finish its capture?
Stand in the capture ring and confirm the changed device state. Do not announce completion just because someone fired at it or briefly entered the circle.
What should I check when the prison lock rejects the solution?
Restate the two direction totals, count all six moving dials and inspect uncertain states. Avoid random simultaneous shots that obscure the count.
Can I ignore Hex after one melee transfer?
No. Verify it has left your HUD and create distance; a Hex-Drinker can tag it back. Handle a returned Hex before resuming other tasks.
Is a Hefnd-only package a full clear?
No. The last-boss objective covers the selected final encounter; full-clear packages are separate choices.
Can I choose Self-play for Solo or Solo Flawless?
No. Those two current objectives are Piloted only. Normal and Master full-clear and last-boss choices support Self-play.
Does a dungeon clear guarantee Buried Bloodline or its Catalyst?
No. The selected completion objective is separate from a specific random Exotic reward and the optional Catalyst route.
Where should I check current Power and rewards?
Use the live activity card and reward preview for the chosen version. Old launch Power and blanket Artifice or weekly claims are not a current preparation plan.
