Destiny 2 Crota’s End Guide: Encounters & Necrochasm
Plan Crota’s End encounters, Chalice handoffs and current raid rewards. Understand Necrochasm progress and compare full-clear, Crota-kill and Master goals.
Crota’s End is a raid built around shared responsibility. A team can have strong damage and still lose a run to an unclear handoff or an unassigned objective. This guide explains the encounter structure, how to plan a useful attempt and why a full clear, a final-boss kill and Necrochasm progress are different goals.
Reviewed October 14, 2026. Crota’s End returned to Destiny 2 during Season of the Witch, with its reprised raid race beginning September 1, 2023. It was not a Season 19 release. The original launch race is historical, not an upcoming activity. Bungie’s 2023 showcase recap.
Choose Your Crota’s End Goal
Plan the result before forming the team
| Goal | What the session should cover | What to check afterward |
|---|---|---|
| First full clear | The complete route and every encounter | Completion, rewards and the part you want to practice next. |
| Only Crota kill | The final encounter from the agreed starting point | Boss completion; do not count it as earlier encounter practice. |
| Master clear | The selected difficulty and its current requirements | The recorded difficulty and any separately targeted Challenge. |
| Flawless objective | A run that meets the named objective’s conditions | The exact completion record, not simply an ordinary clear. |
| Necrochasm or Catalyst | The relevant quest or upgrade steps | Quest progress and acquisition separately from the raid completion. |
For a first clear, allow time to explain unfamiliar actions. For a repeat session, name the target encounter and reward before launch. If a player expects a specific weapon or Triumph, say so rather than relying on “raid clear” to describe everything.
Prepare the Team and Read the Activity Card
Read the live activity card for the chosen difficulty, requirements and modifiers. Build for the enemies and restrictions it lists, rather than copying launch-era Power numbers. Leave inventory space and use a loadout you can operate comfortably while carrying out your assigned task.
A practical pre-run conversation
| Decision | Useful question |
|---|---|
| Communication | Who gives the next instruction, and how does the assigned player acknowledge it? |
| Combat coverage | Does anyone need help with the enemies around their mechanic? |
| Recovery | What will the team do if someone loses their role or cannot reach the next position? |
| Damage | Can everyone use the plan reliably, and does it leave someone available for the encounter objective? |
A learning group benefits from short, specific calls. Say the player and action together. If a call is uncertain, resolve it before the next interaction; repeating a guessed instruction more loudly does not make it correct.
Chalice of Light: Plan the Handoff
The Chalice charges while held. Once full, an eligible teammate must take it before the lethal timer expires; the previous holder becomes Enlightened. Spending that buff gives Drained of Light, temporarily preventing another pickup. Hawpy’s community mechanic explanation.
Agree a handoff order and a backup recipient before starting. The holder should call readiness while the recipient confirms they can take it. Watch the displayed state rather than assuming that someone who took the Chalice earlier is ready again.
The Abyss: Keep the Route Together
Weight of Darkness restricts movement; Engulfed in Darkness is lethal when its timer runs out. Enlighten lanterns, preserve the Chalice at required nodes and reach the final bridge plate. Community Abyss overview.
Use a consistent pace the whole team can follow. Before moving away, confirm the next action and check that the player responsible for it is present. If movement is the recurring problem, practice that transition instead of replacing every weapon in the loadout.
The Bridge: Crossing and Support Roles
Maintain the bridge using plates and totems. Crossing requires the Chalice or a relic sword; picking up a sword requires Enlightened. Sword carriers defeat Gatekeepers while the group transfers support to the far side. Community Bridge overview.
Call which side currently maintains the crossing and who is ready to move next. Keep “ready,” “crossing” and “arrived” as separate confirmations. The supporting players need a clear signal before changing their positions.
Ir Yut: Coordinate the Wizard Clear
Scout the Wizard rooms and send Enlightened players inside. Killing the required Wizards exposes Ir Yut; meet the highlighted damage requirement before Dark Liturgy expires. Community Ir Yut overview.
Required Wizard counts increase across rounds: three, then four, then five. Vaexil’s encounter reference.
Choose one shared frame of reference for room calls. Assign each confirmed target before starting the coordinated kill. During damage, identify whether a weak phase came from a missed setup, ammunition or positioning before changing the whole plan.
Crota: Shield Break and Oversoul
Transfer the Chalice within an active Pool of Light. Relic swords break Crota’s shield. Keep an Enlightened player assigned to the Oversoul; breaking it ends normal damage. Community Crota overview.
Treat relic preparation, the shield break and the end-of-phase call as separate responsibilities. The player handling the Oversoul needs a clear opportunity to act. Do not build a plan that depends on a last-second reaction from someone who is also following a conflicting instruction.
Current Raid Rewards: Featured Status Matters
Bungie’s June 2026 reward update features two raids weekly. Its published framework distinguishes these raid rewards. Released Update 9.7.0.
Published raid reward framework
| Activity state | Reward framework |
|---|---|
| Featured Standard encounters and Challenges | Deepsight weapons or Tier 5 armor. |
| Featured Master | The same base rewards, plus Adept weapons from Challenges. |
| Non-featured Standard | A chance for Deepsight weapons and Tier 3 armor. |
| Non-featured Master / Challenges / Deepsight Chest | Deepsight weapons and Tier 5 armor. |
Listed featured rewards are farmable unless marked weekly. Featured Director Challenge and hidden-chest rewards have weekly lockouts; the vendor has a weekly Deepsight purchase. The Deepsight Chest gives a Deepsight weapon, or Tier 5 armor when all patterns are complete. Check live eligibility before repeats rather than assuming every optional chest is unlimited. Reward details and exceptions.
A reward tier is different from receiving the item or perk combination you wanted. Record the actual reward separately from the successful clear. The published Legendary framework does not establish a guaranteed Necrochasm acquisition.
Necrochasm: Follow Bottomless Pit
Claim Bottomless Pit at the end vendor. Its progression uses Husk of the Pit for 100 Hive defeats, upgrades to Eidolon Ally, then requires 20 Essence of the Oversoul and another Crota defeat to claim Necrochasm. Community quest walkthrough.
Open the quest and read the step on your account before choosing the next activity. Keep quest completion separate from a normal boss-clear count. If you are returning after an earlier attempt, inspect the saved progress rather than assuming you need to restart.
Essence of the Oversoul: Full Runs and Checkpoints
Bungie’s September 2023 progression announcement describes two guaranteed Essence for the first full clear of the week: the first weekly Crota reward and an additional ordered full-run reward. Each subsequent complete run grants the full-run bonus. Repeat encounters also have random Essence chances; a rare full-run Crota reward can complete the quest and Catalyst requirements. Bungie’s published Essence changes.
A final-boss checkpoint is not the ordered full run required for that bonus. Check your current quest and reward state before deciding between a complete route and repeats. No fixed number of runs or measured drop percentage is promised here.
Necrochasm Catalyst and Optional Objectives
The Catalyst requires two timed raid trials in the same instance, plus 35 cumulative Essence; the 20 used for the weapon count toward that total. Community Catalyst route.
Bungie’s released 7.2.0.5 notes corrected the unlock to 35 Essence without a combatant-defeat requirement. Official Catalyst correction.
The Catalyst was rebuilt with One for Thrall: damaging three combatants quickly improves damage, range and aim assistance. Bungie’s released 8.0.0.1 changes.
Before a puzzle or named Triumph attempt, agree on that objective and inspect its conditions together. Keep a record of the steps completed in the current attempt. A standard clear should not be treated as confirmation that every optional requirement is finished.
Make the Next Attempt Count
- Name the clear, encounter or quest objective.
- Read the selected activity requirements and current objective state.
- Assign handoffs and encounter calls before starting.
- After a failed attempt, identify one concrete issue to practice.
- After completion, inspect the reward, quest or named record you targeted.
Useful review notes describe an observable problem: a recipient was unavailable, a room call was unclear or a transition happened before the team was ready. Work on that specific issue next. This preparation advice is not a measured clear-time claim.
Compare CFNBoost Crota’s End Objectives
The Raids configurator separates Normal full clear, Only Crota Kill, Master and Flawless Completion. These are named clear objectives; the package does not sell Necrochasm acquisition, its Catalyst or every encounter Challenge as automatic extras.
Selected normal-speed prices checked October 14, 2026
| Objective | Piloted | Self-play |

Crota’s End FAQ
Clear objectives and preparation
Is this a Season 19 raid preview?
No. This is an updated guide to the existing reprised raid. Its release history is explained above; the original launch race has ended.
What should a first-clear group agree on?
Choose the goal, assign handoff recipients and establish a shared way to give room and phase calls. Allow practice time for unfamiliar transitions.
Is Only Crota Kill the same as a full clear?
No. It covers the final-boss objective. Earlier encounters and a complete start-to-finish route are different selections.
Does a normal raid-clear package include Necrochasm?
No. The published raid service sells the selected clear objective. Necrochasm quest completion and its Catalyst are not included as automatic rewards or acquisition services.
Can I choose Self-play for Master or Flawless?
The current configurator offers Self-play for the Normal full clear and Only Crota Kill choices. Master and Flawless use Piloted only.
Does Master automatically complete every Challenge?
The published Master clear is a difficulty objective. Do not assume it includes every named Challenge, Triumph or desired weapon unless explicitly listed in the selection.
Which Power level and modifiers should I prepare for?
Read the live activity card for the selected difficulty. Historical launch requirements are not a reliable preparation plan for a current run.
Should everyone focus only on boss damage?
Keep the encounter responsibilities covered. Assign the action that ends or advances the phase and make sure that player can perform it without conflicting instructions.
