Destiny 2 Praxic Blade Guide: Unlock, Forms & Catalysts
Unlock Praxic Blade through Fire and Ice, follow Praxic’s Path, compare Forms, Catalysts and Cores, and check what the weapon-unlock package includes.
Praxic Blade is the Exotic Kinetic Sword earned through the Renegades campaign route. It uses Special ammo, can be thrown at enemies and reflects projectiles while guarding. Getting your first Blade is the starting point; Forms, Cores, Catalysts and appearance options are separate parts of its customization.
Reviewed October 15, 2026. This guide explains the Fire and Ice unlock, the current Praxic’s Path training objectives, three Forms, four Catalyst choices and three Cores. It also separates the published weapon-unlock service from optional upgrades.
Unlock Praxic Blade Through Fire and Ice
Bungie introduced Praxic Blade as a Kinetic, Special-ammo Sword acquired during the Renegades campaign. The current collectible still lists Renegades as its source. Follow your campaign progress until its weapon mission is available, rather than treating it like a random raid Exotic. Bungie’s weapon introduction. Current weapon collection.
The current activity definitions name Fire and Ice: Brave and Fire and Ice: Legendary. Both describe entering a Praxic Vault on Europa with Aunor’s guidance to claim the Blade. Check the version and objective shown on your launch screen before starting. Current Fire and Ice activity definitions.
- Check the required Renegades campaign progress and mission access on your Guardian.
- Follow the available Fire and Ice weapon-unlock objective.
- Complete the mission’s instructions and claim the named weapon reward.
- Inspect your Blade before deciding which customization to pursue.
- Keep the first unlock separate from later training, components and Catalyst objectives.
This is an unlock and customization guide, not an exact room-by-room mission route. It does not supply unverified puzzle coordinates, a fixed completion time or a promise that every optional reward comes from one ordinary clear.
Follow Praxic’s Path After the Unlock
The current Praxic’s Path quest has seven ordered stages. It introduces the Blade’s attacks, a mod purchase and another Fire and Ice visit. Read the active stage on your Guardian so that training progress and weapon acquisition are not confused. Current ordered training quest.
- Speak with Aunor in the Tharsis Cantina.
- Complete the tracked combat practice: 35 light attacks, 25 Blade throws and 15 reflections.
- Return to Tharsis and complete the meditation step.
- Purchase a Praxic Blade mod in the Tharsis Bazaar.
- Equip the new mod on your Blade.
- Revisit Fire and Ice and finish the tracked 35-target objective using Praxic Blade.
- Return to Aunor in the Cantina for the debrief.
The combat-practice counters are named light attacks, Blade throws and reflections. Follow each counter rather than assuming one kind of attack advances all three. Later, the quest separately tracks the mission completion and target defeats.
Learn the Throw, Guard and Melee Combo
The Ranged Weapon intrinsic describes two throws: a normal heavy-attack throw seeks multiple targets, while holding heavy attack produces a stronger, straight throw toward your aim. Attacking recalls a travelling normal throw; releasing the held attack recalls the charged throw. Current throw controls.
Cormorant Reversal turns incoming projectiles into reflected bolts while you guard, directing them toward your aim. Cormorant Combo uses three rapid light melee attacks followed quickly by heavy attack. Practice those inputs separately before combining them in a difficult encounter. Current reflection and combo traits.
The attached Ranged Weapon perk also identifies Barrier Champions. Check the Blade’s actual action and your chosen effect instead of assuming every melee swing, reflection or equipped mod has the same Champion behavior. Current intrinsic perk description.
Choose a Form for Your Play Style
The three Praxic Blade Forms
| Form | Current condition and benefit | Useful practice |
|---|---|---|
| Balanced Form | Rapid final blows return ammo and start health regeneration; stronger against rank-and-file enemies. | Build a controlled sequence against smaller enemies. |
| Defensive Form | Rapid guard blocks grant ammo; a block immediately after entering guard briefly raises damage. | Practice block timing and aiming reflected bolts. |
| Offensive Form | Three melee or throw hits grant ammo; stronger against bosses and vehicles. | Keep a safe, repeatable attack sequence. |
Released Update 9.7.0 lowered Balanced Form’s ammo return from two rounds to one and changed Defensive Form’s ammo trigger to rapid blocks. Older advice about two rounds per Balanced trigger or a different Defensive trigger is outdated. Released Form and reflection changes.
Your Form, tang and grip are distinct choices to inspect on the weapon. The current parts include Balanced, Deflection and Fencing tangs, plus Balanced, Defensive and Offensive grips. Read the selected combination before comparing how long you can attack or guard. Current Blade parts and Forms.
Compare the Four Catalyst Effects
The actual Praxic Blade Catalyst socket contains four named effects. The Catalyst record says to obtain Catalysts across Renegades content and insert one into the weapon. That is different from assuming a single universal defeat counter completes every Catalyst route. Current Catalyst socket and collection record.
Choose the Catalyst effect you want
| Catalyst | Current effect | Condition to remember |
|---|---|---|
| Echoing Blade | A thrown Blade can reach more targets. | Use a throw with several suitable enemies. |
| Upper Hand | Raises throw and reflected-shot damage when you are above the target. | Your height relative to the enemy matters. |
| Hyperblade | Reflected shots amplify you and extend the lunge of one Sword swing. | Reflect shots while guarding before using that swing. |
| Energy Conduit | Grants health regeneration based on how many enemies the thrown Blade hits. | The effect depends on throw hits, not simply equipping it. |
Released Update 9.5.0.5 fixed Hyperblade activating without guarding. Use the stated reflection-and-guard condition when testing it; the old unintended activation is not a current build plan. Released Hyperblade guard correction.
Fire and Ice’s December 2025 update corrected a case that blocked additional Catalysts when they were not earned in one run. It also corrected disabling the timer and reaching the final reward room after dying at encounter completion. Those are specific historical fixes, not proof that every later player report has the same cause. Released mission and Catalyst corrections.
Choose the missing Catalyst and inspect your present mission instructions before an upgrade run. This guide compares current effects; it does not certify every hidden objective, timer sequence or acquisition route as freshly played in the current client.
Match a Core to Your Attack and Equipped Super
Cores use different sources of Blade damage
| Core | Qualifying damage | How to choose |
|---|---|---|
| Impact Core | Melee damage from the Blade. | Use it when your plan centers on close attacks. |
| Refraction Core | Reflected-projectile damage. | Use it when guarding and returning shots are central. |
| Gyro Core | Thrown-Blade damage. | Use it when you prefer ranged throws. |
Each current Core matches its elemental effect to your equipped Super: Arc grants Bolt Charge, Solar applies scorch, Void applies weaken, Stasis applies slow and Strand applies sever. The trigger still depends on the selected Core’s damage type. Current Core descriptions.
For example, a Solar Super with Gyro Core ties the effect to thrown-Blade damage. Changing to Impact Core changes the required action to melee damage. This does not mean a cosmetic crystal color changes the weapon’s base Kinetic identity.
Separate Blade Colors, Mods and Combat Effects
Dark Matter Crystals change the Blade’s color appearance and their descriptions identify an account-wide unlock once obtained. Hilts are also appearance options. Pick them for the look you want, without treating a red or blue appearance as a different damage element. Current crystal and hilt descriptions.
The separate Blade mod socket contains options such as Crystal Strength, Grip, Blade Ammo, Invigorating Blade and Forceful Blade. These target charge, guard, capacity or impact properties. Inspect the mod you actually own and compare one change at a time. Current Blade mod options.
The Armor Mods Guide helps with the rest of your equipment, while the New Player Guide explains the broader preparation route. A comfortable backup weapon remains useful for enemies that are awkward to approach or reflect.
