AION 2 Classes Guide: Roles, Tier Lists & Class Choice
Compare AION 2 class roles, regional roster changes and the evidence behind tier lists before choosing a first character or reroll.
The best AION 2 class for you depends on the combat you enjoy and the job you want in a group. A damage tier from another patch cannot answer those questions. This guide compares class play patterns, explains what changes a PvE or PvP recommendation, and gives you a short test to make a first-character or reroll decision.
AION 2 Class Roster and Regional Updates
The established class names used in this guide are Gladiator, Templar, Assassin, Ranger, Sorcerer, Spiritmaster, Cleric and Chanter. Naming can vary: NC’s English March announcement refers to the summon-focused class as Elementalist. Its July announcement added Brawler. Check the creation screen in your region rather than assuming every client offers exactly the same eight or nine choices.
Class Comparison by Play Pattern
Which role do you want to learn?
| Class | Play pattern to explore | What to test before choosing |
|---|---|---|
| Gladiator | Close-range combat and frontline play | Target access, movement between mechanics and your defensive options. |
| Templar | Protection and frontline control | How comfortable you are directing positioning and protecting teammates. |
| Assassin | Close-range target access and timed attacks | Engage timing, safe exits and pressure when your first attempt is interrupted. |
| Ranger | Ranged physical combat | Spacing, target selection and attacks while relocating. |
| Sorcerer | Spellcasting and ranged damage | Casting windows, interruption and repositioning between actions. |
| Spiritmaster / Elementalist | Summon-focused combat and utility | Managing your summon alongside movement, targets and your own actions. |
| Cleric | Healing and party recovery | Reading incoming damage, choosing recovery windows and managing resources. |
| Chanter | Support-oriented combat | Coordinating available support tools with the needs of your group. |
| Brawler, where available | Frontline gauntlet combat | Combo timing and the Rage/Rampage mechanic described for its introduction. |
These descriptions are starting points for exploring a role. They do not establish current damage output, a mandatory party composition or guaranteed queue demand. Brawler’s July introduction describes a gauntlet weapon and a Rage-triggered Rampage state; that announcement does not supply a benchmark against the other classes.

How to Read an AION 2 Tier List
- Check the publication date, regional client and patch.
- Identify whether it ranks solo play, dungeon damage, group usefulness, duels or large battles.
- Look for the tested build, gear, opponent or encounter and the measurement used.
- Separate measured results from the author’s preference or class familiarity.
- Compare the demands of the ranked build with your own latency, controls and available party.
A single S or A label can hide those differences. This page does not assign unsupported performance letters. Use the comparison to narrow your choices, then examine evidence for the particular mode you will play. A guide covering all classes is useful for learning roles even when it cannot justify a numerical ranking.
Best Class for Beginners: Choose the Responsibility First
Narrow your first-character shortlist
| What you enjoy | Classes to explore | Your deciding question |
|---|---|---|
| Staying close to the target | Gladiator, Assassin; Brawler where available | Do you enjoy finding a safe attack window while keeping an escape ready? |
| Attacking from a distance | Ranger, Sorcerer | Do you prefer physical spacing or managing spellcasting windows? |
| A summon and additional utility | Elementalist / Spiritmaster naming varies | Can you comfortably coordinate your summon and your own movement? |
| Protecting the group | Templar | Do you enjoy watching the encounter and helping control positioning? |
| Recovering or supporting teammates | Cleric, Chanter | Do you want healing decisions or support-oriented combat to be your main responsibility? |
This shortlist groups the play patterns described above; it is not an easiest-to-hardest or strongest-to-weakest ranking. Read the actual skills in your client, choose two candidates and use the same short practice route. If neither feels good, change the role you are exploring before spending on another character.
PvE Tier List vs PvP Tier List: Compare the Conditions
What a useful class comparison should disclose
| Comparison | Evidence to look for | What cannot be concluded |
|---|---|---|
| Solo leveling | Quest or encounter, progression, recovery and completion time | A fast solo route does not establish raid damage. |
| Dungeon damage | Same encounter, comparable equipment, build and repeated attempts | One unusually clean run does not establish a universal tier. |
| Healing or protection | Damage pattern, survival, recoveries and group composition | A damage-only meter cannot rank every party contribution. |
| Duels or small-team PvP | Opponent, build, target access, defensive exchanges and objectives | A duel result does not rank large Abyss battles. |
| Large-group PvP | Team coordination, objective, positioning and encounter scale | Results cannot be transferred automatically to another mode or patch. |
For a guide or video that gives letter tiers, use this table as a quality check. If its author does not identify the mode and conditions, keep the recommendation as an opinion rather than a reason to pay for a reroll.
Choosing a Class for PvE
Decide whether you prefer dealing damage, protecting teammates, recovering the party or providing supporting tools. Then consider the encounters your group intends to clear. A class you control consistently through movement and mechanics can be a better personal choice than a theoretical leader whose rotation you cannot maintain.
PvE questions to answer
| Your goal | Useful test | What a good fit feels like |
|---|---|---|
| Solo story progression | Repeat a quest encounter and recover from a mistake | You understand the tools that let you continue without panic. |
| Dungeon damage | Keep attacking while dodging or changing targets | The required positioning matches the way you like to move. |
| Protection or healing | Handle an incoming-damage window in a group | You enjoy watching the encounter and teammates as well as your own character. |
| Group support | Coordinate a useful action with the party | You can tell when the tool changes the group’s next exchange. |
Choosing a Class for PvP
First identify the mode. Duels, objective fights and larger group battles demand different target access, survival and coordination. The usefulness of a class also depends on the selected build and teammates. A strong opening attack is only part of the test: practice what happens after the opponent responds or you need to retreat.
NC’s March update separated PvE and PvP damage calculations and changed class skills. A PvE damage result should therefore not be presented as a PvP ranking. Read theAbyss PvP guideto plan around the actual mode, team rules and objective.
A Short Class Test Before Rerolling
- Choose two roles you are curious about and read their available actions.
- Try the same short combat route with each, using comparable progression where possible.
- Test movement, a defensive response and recovery after an interrupted attack.
- Record which actions feel comfortable and which responsibilities you dislike.
- If group play is your goal, try an eligible group activity and ask what the party needs.
- Compare the reroll cost and unfinished progress before abandoning the character you already understand.
Do not call a preference test a damage benchmark. Unequal equipment, skill upgrades, encounter conditions and experience can produce a misleading comparison. Your useful result is whether the role fits you; a competitive ranking needs controlled evidence that this page does not claim to provide.
Progression Services After Choosing a Class
A leveling or dungeon service helps complete a selected task; it does not promise to make a class the strongest after a balance update. AION 2 Classes FAQ
Class-choice questions
What is the best AION 2 class?
There is no measured universal winner established here. Choose a role, region and game mode first, then compare current evidence for that particular goal.
Does every region have Brawler?
NC announced Brawler in its July 6 update. Check your regional creation screen; that dated announcement does not establish identical worldwide availability.
Is Spiritmaster the same name used in every source?
No. Some English publisher materials use Elementalist. Confirm the class name and summon-focused kit in your client when matching guides.
Should I pick the highest damage tier for my first character?
A ranking is only useful when its tested conditions match your goal. Controls, movement and the responsibility you enjoy are more reliable first-character filters.
Can I use a PvE ranking for PvP?
Not automatically. Build choices, objectives, teammates and separately adjusted combat calculations can change the result.
