PoE 2 Progression Guide: Campaign, Ascendancy & Atlas

Plan Path of Exile 2 progression from campaign to Atlas: choose the right league, Ascendancy stage, build priorities and clearly scoped leveling or boss goals.

A dark fantasy wanderer climbs from a stormy coastal ruin toward an ancient temple and a cosmic map portal, grounded gritty armor.

A useful Path of Exile 2 progression plan separates the campaign, character levels, Ascendancy stages and Atlas progress. A character can be ahead in one and missing another. Start with the exact quest, trial or map goal you need next, then decide whether you need more levels, a build adjustment or help completing that activity.

Check Your League Before Choosing a Route

Forbidden Rites arrived with update 0.5.5 as a new event league and economy. Earlier characters remain available, and the Runes of Aldur league also continues. The event has separate Standard, Hardcore and Solo Self-Found variations. GGG’s Forbidden Rites notes.

Read the league on the character selection screen before comparing packages. Our Leveling & Campaign, Ascendancy Trials and starter packages currently name Forbidden Rites Softcore. The Atlas service also contains map-clear packages specifically labeled Standard Softcore. The same character level does not make those league choices interchangeable.

Choose the account character you will actually use, including its league, class and current progress. A participating Self-play carry is an order method; Solo Self-Found is a game mode. The similar wording does not mean that a group carry or traded-item package is automatically available to an SSF character.

Follow the Current Campaign Instead of an Old Cruel Route

The Third Edict update added Act IV and removed the repeated Cruel campaign difficulty. It introduced three Interludes to bridge the campaign toward endgame around level 65. Official campaign structure update.

Check your active quest and the section you have reached. Our campaign menu names Acts I–IV and the Interludes The Curse of Holten, The Stolen Barya and Doryani’s Contingency. Do not interpret a later section as completion of every earlier act, and do not use an old guide that tells you to repeat Acts I–III on Cruel.

Separate the progression goals

GoalWhat to record firstWhat it does not automatically include
Character levelsCurrent level and the target range.Every campaign quest, trial and endgame unlock.
Campaign completionCurrent act or Interlude and remaining quest state.A level-90 character or a finished endgame build.
Ascendancy progressionStages already earned and the next eligible trial.Atlas passives or guaranteed rare trial rewards.
Atlas progressionMapping access and Atlas points already earned.Character Ascendancy points or unused Waystone delivery.
A boss clearThe named encounter, league and difficulty. An entire act, every boss drop or a complete build.

Use Leveling & Campaign for one listed level range or a named campaign section. Its complete-route choices have their own stated scope: Acts I–IV with a level-60 target, or the full campaign and three Interludes with a level-63 target, including Side Quests. Those package levels describe the order; they are not universal entry-level rules for all endgame activities.

Fix One Build Problem Before Buying Several Upgrades

When progress slows, identify the cause before changing everything. If normal packs take too long, review the main skill, its supports and the weapon or other stats it depends on. If you repeatedly die, check the damage you are taking, recovery and how you commit to attacks. If the issue is running out of resources, look at the skill’s actual cost and your ability to sustain it.

The support system no longer limits an entire character to one copy of each support gem; that restriction was removed in 0.3.0. Some supports also have progression tiers. Support-system changes. Read each current gem’s compatibility and effect rather than rebuilding around an outdated restriction.

  • Choose one main damage plan and confirm the supports actually help it.
  • Keep equipment requirements and resource costs in mind when changing skills.
  • Review one repeated death or failed boss mechanic before adding another damage upgrade.
  • Keep a budget for the specific problem you identified rather than buying several unrelated items.

These are practical review questions, not a tested best-build list. A setup that clears early packs comfortably may still need changes for a trial, a map modifier or a boss. Compare the activity you want to complete with what your character can already do consistently.

Choose the Ascendancy Stage Your Character Still Needs

The Ascendancy Trials service offers Sekhemas or Chaos, with an individual first, second, third or fourth Ascension, or a sequence starting at the first. An individual fourth-stage order is not the same scope as the first-through-fourth sequence.

Before choosing, check the character’s existing Ascendancy progress, access to the route and whether the entry is eligible for the intended stage. Select a sequence when earlier stages are also missing. Keep your character’s Ascendancy goal separate from Atlas points, and do not count repeated completion of an already-earned stage as new progression.

Update 0.5.5 allows a Trial of Chaos run to be left and resumed later from the same room, and adds a reward chest after each room. Current Trial of Chaos improvements. Those changes affect the run experience; a named Ascension package still covers its selected stage, rather than unlimited reward farming.

For the trial service, Piloted means a PRO plays the selected route on the character. Self-play means you join and control your character at the arranged time. The supported Self-play choice adds 20% to the selected package. Rare relics, jewels or other particular drops are not included just because the trial has rewards.

Follow the New Atlas Objectives After the Campaign

The 0.5.0 endgame overhaul added fixed Atlas points of interest and questlines introducing league mechanics through their pinnacle encounters. Completing the first tower raises the Precursor Fortress; maps within it award Atlas passive points, replacing the earlier point-earning method. Official endgame and Fortress overhaul.

Masters of the Atlas is another progression system, with master-specific choices that can be changed between maps. It is separate from a character’s class Ascendancy. Masters of the Atlas explained.

Follow your current endgame quest and inspect the next objective rather than treating a high map tier as the only sign of progress. Work on a tier and set of modifiers you can finish reliably. Check the goal of an activity before spending its entry resources, especially when you want points rather than only a clear or loot.

In 0.5.5, the non-quest Origin Core version of Arbiter of Divinity completes the entire Fortress for the map owner. The quest version no longer completes a Fortress section. Updated Fortress completion rule. A boss name alone therefore does not describe every progression outcome. Confirm the encounter version and the character receiving the progress.

Match Atlas, Boss and Starter Packages to Their Scope

Choose the package for the missing step

Package typeCurrent listed scopeCheck first
Atlas pointsA named new-point quantity in Forbidden Rites Softcore.Campaign and Atlas ready; level 70+ is a service requirement.
Map clearsNamed T1–T16 clear packs in Standard Softcore.League, tier and run count; these are runs rather than unused Waystones.
Boss killsThe chosen encounter, kill count and listed difficulty.Actual access and league, not an assumed point or drop reward.
Starter bundleA selected level/build tier with named campaign and progression inclusions. The one chosen class/build and the exact included goals.
Build coachingSelected live time for a current-build review or new-build plan.Your character, questions and Softcore or Hardcore package.

The Atlas & Maps service separates new Atlas-point quantities from map runs, Delirium completions and Simulacrum runs. Its point packages name Forbidden Rites Softcore; the map-clear packages name Standard Softcore. For point and map work, the service asks for a level-70-or-higher character with the campaign completed and mapping available. That is a service starting condition, not a claim that the game universally unlocks maps at level 70.

Use Boss Kills for a specific encounter. A campaign boss package covers that fight, not its whole act. Endgame packages name their count and difficulty where applicable. The service supplies a required endgame entry item when needed, while your character still needs the required progression and access. A repeated kill is not a promise of extra points or a particular Unique each time.

The League Starter Bundle combines goals that standalone services keep separate. Essential names level 65 and an early-mapping build target; Advanced names level 80 and a higher mapping target; Ultimate names level 90 and at least 30 Atlas points. The packages also list campaign, side rewards and eight Ascendancy points. Choose one listed build or class. Mapping targets describe the intended build goal, not unlimited map clears or guaranteed rare drops.

Use Coaching for Decisions You Want to Understand

Our Builds & Coaching service offers one, two, four, six, eight or ten live hours in separately named Softcore and Hardcore packages. Choose a review of your existing build or planning a new build for the same selected time. You stay in control, with Self-play included in the coaching package.

Bring a clear question: why a skill feels weak, which upgrade matters next or what is causing a repeated death. A new-build discussion helps plan the character you will play; it does not deliver a finished character, farm equipment or buy currency for you. Choose a completion package when the goal is completed progression, and coaching when the goal is explanation and practice.

Use the Path of Exile 2 catalogue once your league, starting state and goal are clear. Read the final total in your selected display currency. Keep the chosen participation method and exact inclusions in view: item delivery, carried progression, live coaching and a Piloted starter bundle do not all use the same options.

Path of Exile 2 Progression Questions

Choose a clear campaign-to-endgame goal

Do I still repeat Acts I–III on Cruel?

No. The reviewed campaign structure uses Act IV and three Interludes instead of the old repeated Cruel campaign.

Are character Ascendancy and Atlas points the same?

No. They are different progression goals; choose the trial stage or Atlas-point package your character needs.

Does a level target include the full campaign?

Only the scope explicitly listed in that package is included. A level range and a complete campaign route are separate choices.

Can I use a Standard map package for Forbidden Rites?

No automatic league substitution is included. Select a package whose named league matches the character.

Does every Arbiter of Divinity clear finish my Fortress?

The reviewed rule depends on the encounter version and map ownership. The quest version is different from the non-quest Origin Core version.

Does build coaching include equipment delivery?

No. It provides selected live coaching time. Gear, currency and carried progression are separate services.
